Thoughts over Matteo: words are toys for some.

Words for thought.
The doctor said I had 20,000 days to live. I savored each sunrise and sunset. I kept a log of each day, sweet and sour. I had 19,999 days to think of Matteo. All the ways in which he changed me.
On day 19,999 I called Matteo and invited him to meet me at the top of the Empire State Building. He agreed, I couldn’t wait to do what I had been dreaming of all these days.
Upon seeing him, I didn’t recognize him, but I remembered his eyes. I looked deeply into his empty soul and gave him a kiss from my heart. He was empty-handed. I pressed my hands on his chest, closed my eyes, and opened them.
My scars were invisible but still bleeding. I extended my arms and Matteo stepped off the edge effortlessly. He thought he was safe, like I used to. I watched him fall and no one caught him, same as I fell for him years ago.
I went home and ordered my favorite takeout; it seemed more savory this time. I washed my plate and went to bed in a beautiful outfit, for the last time. Rest came easy. In my last dream, my friends showed up to greet me, smiling, glowing. It was day 20,000 and I felt no more pain, only love. I looked around for Matteo, but he obviously wasn’t there.
